Bahari FM is Royal Media Services' station for the Kenyan Coast, broadcasting in coastal Swahili, the Kiswahili cha Kijomba of Mombasa, with occasional Taita, Giriama, Digo and other Mijikenda languages. Its name is the Kiswahili word for ocean and its tagline is "Nuru ya Roho".
Royal Media says the signal covers Mombasa, Kwale and Ukunda on the South Coast, and Mtwapa, Kilifi and Malindi to the north, on 90.4 FM and 106.0 FM. It has also been linked to 94.2 FM in Nairobi. The Communications Authority's June 2026 register shows Royal Media holding the station's commercial FM licence, a ten-year permit dated 13 April 2018.
Taarab is the backbone of the music. Tuko Bomba plays it from 10am to 1pm on weekdays, Mduara celebrates it on Sunday afternoons, and Serebuka runs a Top 10 taarab countdown. The weekday line-up opens with Kudzacha, a Mijikenda word for daybreak, from 5am to 9am, then Kutubuti covers sport until 10am. Chachawiza entertains younger listeners through the afternoon, Twatulizaa handles current affairs from 5pm to 9pm, and Bahari ya Pwaa closes the night with social and family issues. Weekends add coastal rumba on Asali ya Enzi, reggae on Shazza Reggae and gospel on Alikwe.
Bahari FM has had regulatory trouble. In June 2012 the Communications Commission of Kenya named it among Royal Media frequencies it said were unlicensed, and gave the company 30 days to stop using them.
In Mombasa, tune to 90.4 FM, or to 106.0 FM around Malindi. Bahari FM also streams live on Citizen Digital.
