BK Radio

BK Radio is a community station in Kitale, run by the Sabaot International Development Organisation, and it is meant for communities across the North Rift and Western region. Its stated aim is to promote peace and coexistence between those communities. BK stands for 'Bambika', Swahili slang for 'be happy', and the station says it started in 2019.

The Communications Authority of Kenya register for July 2024 lists BK Radio as a community FM licence held by the Sabaot International Development Organisation, often shortened to SIDO. It is sometimes described as a commercial station, but the regulator's record is the one to trust.

On FM it broadcasts on 99.3 in Kitale. It has also been linked to 98.2, and we have not been able to confirm whether that is a second transmitter or an old frequency. The station also streams online.

Peace programming matters in this part of Kenya. Trans Nzoia, Bungoma and the slopes of Mount Elgon have a history of land and resource conflict between communities, and community radio is one of the tools local organisations use to get people talking. We have not found BK Radio's programme schedule, its main language or its presenters, so we do not list shows.
