Egesa FM

Egesa FM is Royal Media Services' Ekegusii station for the Abagusii community, on air 24 hours a day. Listeners in Kisii and Nyamira tune in on 94.6 FM, and Gusii people living in Nairobi can pick it up on 103.2 FM.

The programming is rooted in Gusii identity but deliberately modern in tone. Royal Media says it wants to hold on to younger, better-off listeners who still want to stay connected to the culture. In practice that means current affairs, lifestyle, entertainment and cultural talk, with an eye on education as much as fun.

Royal Media's own audience profile makes a strong claim about reach. It says a survey put Egesa ahead of rival stations in South Nyanza, the area made up of Kisii and Nyamira counties. Royal Media also says about 68 per cent of listeners live in rural areas and 32 per cent in towns, men and women tune in in roughly equal numbers, and the audience leans older, which is typical of vernacular radio.

Egesa is part of the Royal Media network of language stations that includes Radio Citizen, Ramogi FM, Mulembe FM and Inooro FM. Current show names and presenters were not confirmed for this profile.
