Getu FM

Getu FM is a Kimeru-language station on 87.6 FM for listeners in Meru and the neighbouring counties. Its slogan, 'Gaka Ni Getu', roughly means 'this one is ours', and the station pitches itself as a home-grown voice for Ameru listeners.

The station says its signal covers Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo, Embu and Kitui counties. That is a wide footprint for a vernacular station, reaching beyond Meru County into the neighbouring parts of the former Eastern Province.

Getu FM has also carried public-interest programming. In one broadcast in Meru County, youth and religious leaders took listeners' questions on the radio about ending female genital mutilation. Shows like that sit alongside the usual mix of music, talk and news that Meru-language stations carry, and they show the station being used for public health messaging in the county.

In the Meru market, Getu FM shares the dial with Royal Media Services' Muuga FM, Mediamax's Meru FM, KBC's Mwago FM and Weru FM. We have not been able to confirm who owns Getu FM, when it launched, or the names of its presenters and flagship shows, so none are listed.
