Gukena FM is a Kikuyu-language station from the Radio Africa Group, playing music, talk and entertainment for Kikuyu speakers, both in Nairobi and around Mount Kenya. It broadcasts on 92.8 FM.
It started out in Nyeri. The group made the announcement in February 2016. A launch was planned for 5 March that year during the Senators' Golf Day held in Nyeri County, with broadcasts going from Nyeri to nearby counties. Gukena was the group's sixth radio brand. It later moved its base to Nairobi. Presenter Timothy Wagura Githui said in 2023 that the Nyeri branch was closed when the Nairobi station opened, and that he kept his job only by relocating. He went on to become known for Saturday mugithi shows.
Other familiar voices have passed through. Njoki wa Mburu came over from Kameme FM in 2017, and by December 2020 she was on the breakfast show. Mercy Wangari Nguri, the comedian and MC whom listeners call Aunty Jemimah, said in January 2024 that she was moving on after seven years; she had presented a weekday 3pm to 7pm slot and a Sunday afternoon show.
On paper the licence sits with Digital Decoders Distributors Limited. The Communications Authority's register of June 2026 records a ten-year FM licence issued to that company on 16 November 2023, at the same Nairobi postal address as Radio Africa Limited. Sister brands include Kiss 100, Classic 105, Radio Jambo, East FM and The Star newspaper.
