Jac FM

JAC FM is a community-owned station in Kwale County, set up by the Jamii Action Centre as a voice for the Mijikenda community. It broadcasts on 106.2 FM, and its programmes are in Kiswahili and Mijikenda dialects.

What sets JAC FM apart is how it is made. A volunteer team produces the programmes, and the subjects reflect the centre's community work: peacebuilding, climate resilience, gender equity and civic issues. It is seen as an example of community radio amplifying Indigenous voices in Kwale.

Language is central to that. Broadcasting in Mijikenda dialects, and not only in Swahili, means listeners hear local issues discussed in the language they use at home. The station is a platform the community itself controls, rather than one run for it from outside.

The Jamii Action Centre runs the station's online presence through a Facebook page under the name JAC Media Production. We have not found a launch date, a programme schedule or named presenters, so none are listed here.
