KBC Mayienga FM

KBC Mayienga FM is the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation's Dholuo station, made for Luo-speaking listeners in Kisumu and the wider Lake Victoria region. KBC gives its frequency as 93.7 FM, covering Kisumu city and the area around it. The schedule mixes news, public information, music and community programmes, all in Dholuo.

The station is a product of 2011. That year the public broadcaster opened several regional language services together: Kitwek FM, Minto FM, Mwago FM, Nosim FM and Mayienga itself. A year later KBC added Ingo FM and Mwatu FM. The idea was to get the state broadcaster back into vernacular radio, a market that private networks had been winning for years.

Mayienga is publicly owned. KBC is a state corporation whose founding law is Cap 221, and its head office stands on Harry Thuku Road in Nairobi. The same corporation runs Radio Taifa, the KBC English Service, Coro FM, Pwani FM and the Eastern and Western services. In Dholuo radio, the best-known private competitor is Ramogi FM from Royal Media Services.
