Kitwek FM

Kitwek FM is the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation's Kalenjin station, made for Kalenjin-speaking listeners across the Rift Valley. It offers news, public information, music and community programmes in Kalenjin, with Eldoret as its main market.

KBC opened Kitwek FM in 2011. It arrived with Minto FM, Mwago FM, Nosim FM and Mayienga FM in the first batch of a vernacular push. A year later the Kikamba station Mwatu FM and the Luhya station Ingo FM joined them. The move took the public broadcaster into language markets where private networks had taken the lead.

In the Rift Valley, Kitwek FM competes with private Kalenjin stations such as Kass FM, Royal Media Services' Chamgei FM and Standard Group's Berur FM. Its public service mandate means a steady share of government information and national news next to the music, all delivered in Kalenjin for listeners in Eldoret and the wider Rift Valley.

KBC was created by an Act of Parliament (Cap 221) and is run from Harry Thuku Road in Nairobi. Nationally it broadcasts Radio Taifa in Swahili and the English Service. We could not confirm Kitwek FM's current presenters or show names, so none are listed.
