Kulan Radio

Kulan Radio is a digital station from Garissa, connected by name to the Kulan Post news site, and it is aimed at listeners in Garissa County and north-eastern Kenya. It streams online rather than broadcasting on a confirmed FM frequency.

Also known as Kulan Digital Radio, it is regarded, with Garissa Radio, as one of the pioneer digital broadcasters in Garissa. It works in a local market where FM still leads: Garissa Radio on 100.8, Star FM on 97.1 and Radio Jambo on 104.3 are among the town's most popular stations, and most local programming is in Somali and Swahili.

Digital stations have a particular role there. The Communications Authority of Kenya has announced plans to move broadcasting towards DAB+ digital radio, and online and digital outlets in Garissa, including Radio Imaan, Barkulmis Radio and Waso FM, are already part of that shift. At the same time, many residents still rely on battery-powered FM sets, which limits how far internet radio can reach.

We have not confirmed Kulan Radio's owner, launch year, main language or presenters. It should not be confused with Radio Bar-Kulan, a separate Somali broadcaster.
