Mwago FM

Mwago FM is the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation's Kimeru-language station, made for Ameru listeners in Meru and the surrounding Mt Kenya East area. It broadcasts news, public information, music and community programmes in Kimeru.

KBC launched Mwago FM in 2011, in the same year as Kitwek FM, Minto FM, Nosim FM and Mayienga FM. Mwatu FM and Ingo FM followed in 2012. The point of the expansion was to bring the public broadcaster back into regional languages, where private stations had built large followings in the 2000s.

Meru has one of the busiest vernacular dials in the country. Mwago FM shares it with Royal Media Services' Muuga FM, Mediamax's Meru FM, Weru FM and Getu FM. Its strength is KBC's national newsroom and public service content, delivered in Kimeru. Mwago FM has its own correspondents in the region.

KBC is a state corporation set up by an Act of Parliament (Cap 221), with headquarters on Harry Thuku Road in Nairobi. Its other radio services include Radio Taifa, KBC English Service, Coro FM and Pwani FM. We have not confirmed current presenters or programme names, so none are listed.

KBC lists Mwago FM on 103 FM in Meru. An older figure of 97.5 is sometimes given, but KBC's number is the one to use. You can also stream Mwago FM live on this page.
