Pepea Radio

Pepea Radio is a Bungoma-based station that mixes rhumba, zilizopendwa, reggae and gospel with talk shows, for listeners who like older African sounds alongside conversation. It describes itself as an online radio platform broadcasting in Swahili and English, and names TransAfrica Media Ltd as its owner.

The owner has not been independently confirmed. The station also mentions a frequency of 100.0 FM. However, Pepea Radio does not appear in the Communications Authority of Kenya's licence registers for July or November 2024, so it may well be an online-only station. We do not list an FM frequency for that reason. It is also linked to a blog called Habari Leo Kenya.

The music mix is the main draw. Zilizopendwa, the golden oldies of East African music, and Congolese rhumba have a loyal following in western Kenya, especially among older listeners, and putting reggae and gospel in the same rotation makes for a broad, easy-going playlist. Talk shows fill the gaps, though we have not found their names, times or presenters.

We have not confirmed a launch date for Pepea Radio. Pepea is Swahili for 'blow' or 'fan', as in a breeze, which fits a relaxed music station.
