Jamii FM

Jamii FM 103.9 is a community radio station for listeners in Likuyani and Lugari in Kakamega County, with a signal that also reaches into parts of Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu. Its stated purpose is practical: educating listeners on farming, health and education.

The station was started in 2022 by Wezesha Jamii Community Based Organization. The station says residents of Likuyani sub-county had asked for a local station, and the CBO set one up in response. Jamii means community in Kiswahili, and the name matches the model: a non-profit station owned by a local organisation rather than a commercial media house.

Likuyani and Lugari are largely rural and sit where Western Kenya meets the North Rift. A station that talks about farming practice, health services and schooling in a local voice has a clear audience there, and its reach into Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu takes it beyond its home sub-county.

We have not confirmed the station's broadcast language, its presenters or its programme names. Kiswahili and Luhya are both widely spoken in the area, but we have left the language field blank until the station's own information confirms it.
