Radio Waumini is the Catholic Church's station in Nairobi, run for the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and heard on 88.3 FM. It broadcasts in English and Swahili to Catholics and other Christian listeners, with liturgy, prayer, teaching and music.
Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa opened it on 6 July 2003. That date comes from a book the bishops published when the station turned 20 in 2023. Three years after the launch it was already being described as the country's first Catholic station. In 2006 it ran 24 hours a day, built around Daily Devotion, Mass and the Holy Rosary, with Vatican Radio bulletins in English and Kiswahili and programmes from EWTN.
In 2006 the manager was Father Martin Wanyoike, who had been with the station from the start. The 20th anniversary book lists Renato Kizito, Martin Wanyoike and Charles Kinyua among former directors, and carries a message from Adelaide Ndilu, the director as of 2023.
Its influence runs wider than Nairobi. The bishops credit Radio Waumini with helping build Kenya's network of diocesan Catholic stations, and many of their managers and presenters learnt the trade there. Listeners help pay for it through the Friends of Radio Waumini scheme.
The Communications Authority's June 2026 register shows the FM licence in the name of Waumini Communication Limited, dated 9 November 2022. Tune to 88.3 FM in Nairobi, or press play on this page to stream it.
