Tembea Radio

Tembea Radio is a Kenyan community station, reported to be on 89.5 FM. We have not been able to verify it, so this page sets out what is known and flags what is not.

Tembea means walk or travel in Kiswahili, which suggests a Swahili-speaking audience, but the station's language is not confirmed. Its frequency does not settle its location either. 89.5 FM is shared by several Kenyan stations in different regions, including Ghetto Radio in Nairobi, Radio Maria in Kisumu, MBCI Radio in Nakuru, Abiengo FM in Kakamega and Hossana FM in Lodwar. Community stations use low-power transmitters, so Tembea Radio could sit anywhere that does not overlap with those.

Searching for the name mostly turns up Tembea na Majira, a Swahili radio drama on farming and rural life that the Ministry of Agriculture produced with the British charity Media Trust and which aired on KBC's Swahili service. That programme is not a station, and nothing we found connects it to Tembea Radio.

We found no record of Tembea Radio's owner, licence holder, town, launch date or programmes, so those fields are blank and no presenters or shows are listed. If you run the station or listen to it, the town and the licence holder are the two details we most want to add.
