Tharaka University FM

Tharaka University FM is described as a campus radio station on 98.6 FM, linked to Tharaka University in Tharaka Nithi County. We have not been able to verify the station independently, so this page keeps to what can be confirmed.

The university itself is well documented. Tharaka University began in 2015 as a campus of another institution, became a constituent college in 2017, and has its main campus near Gatunga in Tharaka Nithi. Kenyan universities with communication and media programmes often run campus stations as training grounds for students, as Egerton University does with Egerton Radio in Njoro and Kenyatta University does with KU Radio in Nairobi.

What we could not find is a public record of a Tharaka University station, and there is no licence entry for one in the Communications Authority of Kenya material we have seen. The 98.6 FM figure is unconfirmed. We have left the owner, launch and language fields blank and have not listed presenters or shows.

One possible mix-up is worth flagging. Chuka University, also in Tharaka Nithi County, runs its own station, which was established in March 2019 and broadcasts on 98.8 FM. If you are scanning the dial in the county, that is the campus signal you are most likely to find.
