Jamlick Mwongera

Jamlick Mwongera, known on air as MwanaOntii, is the Muuga FM presenter most closely tied to Ntungo ya Nyoni, the Royal Media Services station's Kimeru breakfast show. Royal Media describes him as a pioneer of Kimeru broadcasting who was on air when Muuga FM launched in 2005. His on-air name means "son of a woman".

He came to radio from politics. From 1997 to 2002 he served a five-year term as the elected councillor for Nkuene ward, a seat now known as an MCA post. The station says he was the only candidate elected on an NDP ticket in an area then seen as a Democratic Party stronghold, which explains the political depth he brings to the microphone. Before Muuga FM he spent three months reading news at Kameme FM.

When he joined Muuga FM he was given the breakfast slot and asked to name the show. He chose Ntungo ya Nyoni, and it caught on quickly. Royal Media now calls it the leading breakfast show among Kimeru-language stations. The four-hour programme mixes news briefs and bulletins, current affairs, music and features such as the Kingwete comedy slot, the Nimbi Gitumi editorial and the Kaju ka Murimi farming feature. His own rule for keeping a morning audience over many years is simple: know your listeners and respect them.

On Saturday evenings he also hosts Chunga Kiariki, an entertainment show built around traditional Meru tunes and one of the station's longest-running programmes. His place on the breakfast show has not been confirmed for 2026.
