King Kafu

King Kafu is a co-host of Brekko, the weekday breakfast show on Ghetto Radio 89.5 FM in Nairobi, where he sits alongside the station's CEO Maji Maji from 6am to 10am. He has been at Ghetto Radio since it opened, and in October 2026 the station was still billing Brekko as a Maji Maji and King Kafu show.

He has given his real name as Nicholas Cheruiyot, though Ghetto Radio names him as Nicholas Kilel. The name Kafu came from football: as a boy he played fullback, and friends compared him to the Brazilian defender Cafu. The "King" was added later by his boss at Ghetto Radio, who felt he had earned it.

He did not start on the microphone. He joined Ghetto Radio as a messenger when it launched in 2007. Between deliveries he and colleagues chatted on the balcony, and the presenter Rapture the Scientist recorded those conversations and played them on air. The segment drew so much response that he was brought in as a presenter, trained on the job and given the drive show before moving up to breakfast.

He has spoken openly about time in prison before radio, and that story shapes his work off air. Ghetto Radio describes him as part of the Mfungwa ni Binadamu initiative on criminal justice reform, and he has talked about visiting prisons to steer young people away from crime. On Brekko he handles the trending talk and satire that the station says gives the show its street humour.
