Hot 96

Hot 96 is Royal Media Services' urban station for young city and peri-urban listeners, speaking in what the company calls 'Urban English/Kenyanese', a blend of English and Kiswahili. It broadcasts in Nairobi on 96.0 FM and is the English-leaning sibling of Radio Citizen and Inooro FM.

Royal Media pitches Hot 96 at an aspirational audience: people chasing money, fun and relationships, and posting much of it online. Programming mixes entertainment with information and current talking points.

The weekday schedule opens with The Hot Breakfast from 6am to 10am, which promises tough interviews on politics, showbiz and whatever is trending. After that come The Breakout, a pop culture and celebrity show; The Rewind, for old-school tracks and nostalgia; The Hot Drive from 4pm to 7pm; and Gudah Man's evening show The Hype Grade, before DJ mixes overnight.

Weekends have their own line-up: The Morning After, Kyanda presenting The Sports Arena, the DJ party show Club 96 and the World Chart Show. Sunday listeners get Arise, a gospel show with Mbuya Damiano and DJ Syke, along with Groove Train and Smokin' Country.

Hot 96 has been the radio home of journalist Jeff Koinange, and Nick Odhiambo was reported to be joining after a decade at Classic 105 and four years at Radio Maisha. In Nairobi, tune to 96.0 FM, or stream Hot 96 live on this page.
