Jeff Koinange

Jeff Koinange is a journalist and broadcaster who co-hosts the Hot 96 drive show with Patrick Igunza and presents Jeff Koinange Live on Citizen TV. For years he and Igunza fronted Hot 96's breakfast show. On 9 February 2026 Royal Media Services moved the pair to Hot Drive and handed breakfast to Nick Odhiambo and Cynthia Mwangi.

Koinange made his name in international television. He worked for ABC News and NBC News in the early 1990s, then Reuters Television from 1995 to 2001, where he became chief producer. From 2001 to 2007 he was CNN's Africa correspondent, covering Darfur, the wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone and the famine in Niger, which earned him an Emmy. He also reported on Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq war.

Back in Kenya he anchored at K24 from 2007 to 2012, worked with Arise Television in Johannesburg and hosted a branded show on KTN, before moving to Citizen TV, where Jeff Koinange Live has run since February 2017. He studied at Kingsborough Community College in New York and holds a BA in broadcast journalism from New York University. His autobiography, Through My African Eyes, came out in 2014. He was also a judge on East Africa's Got Talent in 2019.

One note on his radio slot: Royal Media's February 2026 announcement put him on drive, the evening show with Igunza. In May 2026 there was mention of a "live morning broadcast", but no announcement has reversed the reshuffle.
