Live page

Inooro FM is Royal Media Services' Kikuyu-language station, made for listeners in Mt Kenya, Nairobi and the Kikuyu-speaking diaspora. Its Nairobi frequency is 98.9 FM, with relays in Murang'a, Nyeri, Embu, Meru and parts of the Rift Valley.

The name comes from the inooro, the stone traditionally used in Kikuyu homes to sharpen knives and axes, and the station says its aim is to sharpen the minds of its audience. Its theme tune, 'Muugi ni Mutaare', translates as 'the wise accept counsel', and it describes itself as the home of kindness and generosity.

Inooro started in 2003, so it marked 23 years on air in July 2026. Several of its first presenters moved over from Radio Citizen, which at that time aired in three languages. With Royal Media's money behind it, the new station put Kameme FM under serious pressure. Royal Media now credits Inooro with more than two million listeners a day and a national listening share above five per cent.

Jeff Kuria, Head of Radio since he joined on 26 January 2007, presents the breakfast show Hagaria, with Benjamin Wangari as deputy. The day continues with Thiririka Reloaded, hosted by Wakarindi wa Ndiithi and Simon Kamonde, then Kurikiria at lunchtime, Cua Cua on the afternoon drive and Keera late at night. On Sundays from midday, Ngogoyo plays six hours of old Kikuyu music. A former Head of Radio, Gathoni wa Muchomba, went on to become MP for Githunguri.

Frequencies: 98.9 FM Nairobi, 96.9 Murang'a, 97.8 Nyeri, 102.0 Embu, 95.1 Meru, 88.9 Nakuru, 107.0 Eldoret and 89.9 Londiani. You can also stream Inooro FM here.
