Live page

Kameme FM is a Kikuyu-language station for Central Kenya and Kikuyu speakers elsewhere, playing mugithi and other music between news, talk and cultural programmes. It broadcasts in Nairobi on 101.1 FM and is managed by Mediamax Network, which also runs Kameme TV, Milele FM and K24 TV.

When it went on air in 2000, Kameme was the first vernacular FM station of its kind, and it still uses the 'pioneer' label. The founders were David and Rose Kimotho, whose advertising company Regional Reach Limited moved into broadcasting. Their investment is put at around Ksh40 million. The original target was rural Central Kenya.

Competition arrived quickly. KBC launched Coro FM and Royal Media launched Inooro FM, and Royal Media hired away several of Kameme's best-known voices.

Ownership changed after the Kimothos started K24 TV in 2007. With finances squeezed in the period after the 2007 to 2008 post-election violence, they agreed in 2009 to bring in TV Africa Kenya Holdings, a firm linked to the Kenyatta family. Communications Authority records list Kameme FM, Milele FM and K24 TV under that company, with Mediamax Network Ltd as manager. Rose Kimotho remained chief executive until 2011.

Its regional frequencies as of 2015 were as follows, and some may have changed since: 101.1 FM Nairobi, 92.3 FM Nyeri and Nanyuki, 99.3 FM Nakuru, 101.9 FM Eldoret, 97.6 FM Mombasa, 100.7 FM Narok and 106.7 FM Meru. Kameme FM also streams online, including on this page.
