The pairing has run for a long time. By 2020 the show had been popular for more than 15 years and was a common sound in Nairobi matatus during the morning commute. The phrase "Let me tell you Maina", used by callers to open their stories, has passed into everyday Nairobi talk. The show won the Radio Show Award for best talk show at the SOMA Awards in 2017.
Kageni did not take a straight route into radio. He finished secondary school at Laiser Hill and then went to the UK for university, but never registered at a college. He worked there as a truck driver and as a fish distributor for a Chinese firm. Back in Kenya he sold cars and read news on KTN before he joined Classic 105.
Classic 105 remains one of the country's biggest stations. A GeoPoll survey in August 2026 placed it third nationally with about 15.6 million listeners, behind Radio Citizen and Radio Jambo. Kageni is not known to have left the breakfast show, but his 2026 slot has not been confirmed, so treat it as likely rather than certain.
