Minto FM on 101.7 FM

Minto FM is the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation's Ekegusii station, made for Gusii listeners in Kisii, Nyamira and the surrounding region.

Minto FM went on air in 2011. It was one of five vernacular stations the public broadcaster launched that year, the others being Kitwek FM, Mwago FM, Nosim FM and Mayienga FM. Two more, the Kikamba and Luhya stations, came the following year. Together they were KBC's attempt to win regional listeners back from private vernacular radio.

In the Gusii market, Minto FM's main private competition includes Royal Media Services' Egesa FM. Being part of KBC gives it national news and public service content from the wider network, translated into the language its listeners use at home and at the market.

Egerton Radio on 101.7 FM

Egerton Radio is Egerton University's student-run training station, broadcasting on 101.7 FM from the main campus at Njoro in Nakuru County.

The station was launched in June 2012, according to the university's Njoro campus pages. Its transmitter mast stands at the Njoro campus, and the signal reaches the surrounding villages and parts of Nakuru Town. Egerton Radio also streams online, so former students and families can listen from anywhere.

As a training station, its first job is teaching: Communication and Media students get hands-on time on a licensed station that real listeners can hear. That makes Egerton Radio part of a wider group of Kenyan campus stations, including Kenyatta University's KU Radio in Nairobi and Chuka University's station in Tharaka Nithi.
