Star FM is a privately owned Somali-language news and current affairs station, regarded as Kenya's oldest Somali broadcaster, with an audience across North Eastern Kenya, Nairobi and Somalia.
The station is headquartered in Nairobi and runs transmitters across the north-east, including Garissa, Dadaab, Wajir, Madogo and Mandera, as well as stations inside Somalia. In Garissa it is on 97.1 FM, where it is among the town's most popular stations.
International content is a big part of what makes Star FM distinctive. It relays programmes from the BBC Somali Service and VOA Somali, and carries Radio Ergo's humanitarian programming.
