Joy wa Macharia

Joy wa Macharia is a Kikuyu radio presenter and Mugithi singer who left KBC's Coro FM after a decade to join Inooro FM. When she joined, Royal Media Services said she would co-host the Sundowner show from 3pm to 7pm with Karwimbo Mukurinu. The date of the move and her current 2026 slot have not been confirmed, so check Inooro's schedule before tuning in.

She comes from Iyego village in Kangema, Murang'a County. She went to Njii Ithatu and Nyakahura primary schools, then Gitugi Girls and Nyakahura secondary schools, and earned a Diploma in Mass Communication at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication. Her first radio work was as an amateur at Radio Maria in Murang'a town.

At Coro FM she ended up hosting the Friday night Mugithi show along with daily evening and weekend programmes. She credits Nyoxx wa Katta, who also started at Coro FM before moving to Inooro, as her mentor, and has said Nyoxx gave her a place to stay while she looked for her break. On leaving Coro she wrote that KBC would always be her first home.

Music runs alongside the radio work. Her song Mundurume Kieya passed two million views on YouTube, and her other releases include Cuma Hiu and Waitherero Kia Murang'a.
