Alex Mwakideu

Alex Mwakideu co-hosts Breakfast 47, the weekday morning show on Cape Media's Swahili station Radio 47, alongside Emmanuel Mwashumbe. He has been in that chair since 28 August 2023, when he crossed over from Milele FM.

His radio career started on the coast. Born on 6 March 1980 and raised in Mombasa, he did not go to university for lack of fees, and a one-off advert recording for a friend led to a slot at Baraka FM. He stayed there from 2000 to 2010, then spent eight years at Radio Maisha, where he was on air the day the station launched and later ran its breakfast show, Maisha Asubuhi.

In 2018 he left Maisha for Mediamax's Milele FM. By December that year he had been named Head of Radio, while still presenting the breakfast show with comedian Jalang'o, and later with Jacquey Nyaminde, known as Wilbroda. His exit in August 2023 was messy in public: he announced he was leaving, retracted the post after talks with management, then Cape Media confirmed days later that he was joining Radio 47.

At Radio 47 the morning show mixes news headlines, a daily topical debate called Gumzo 47, the call-in segment Penzi Meter and a weekly profile interview, Story Yangu. In an August 2026 interview Mwakideu still described himself as one of the Breakfast 47 hosts, saying he has spent about 22 years in broadcasting. He is also a voice-over artist.
