Billy Miya hosts Maskani 47, the weekday evening drive show on Radio 47, with his long-time partner Mbaruk Mwalimu. Listeners know him by his on-air title, Kamanda wa Hizi Shughuli.
He started out on the coast. His first radio job was an internship at KBC's Pwani FM, which led to a staff post and his own evening drive show, Tafrija La Pwani. He then spent eight years at Baraka FM in Mombasa. A move to Milele FM in Nairobi lasted less than two months, and in July 2018 he and Mbaruk took over Radio Maisha's breakfast show, Maisha Asubuhi, after Alex Mwakideu left.
The pair stayed at Standard Group for close to five years. Miya confirmed early in 2023 that his last Maisha show would be on 3 March, and he joined Cape Media's new Radio 47, which launched on 13 March 2023 with him and Mbaruk on Maskani from 3pm to 7pm. The show's regular features include Suluhu 47, where a listener's dilemma is talked through, and Gumzo la Spoti for sports banter. In 2023 he also had a Saturday night slot.
Off air he runs Mideya Digital Media, a digital marketing firm, and a YouTube channel, Billy O'clock. He was born in Kisumu County.
