Radio Jambo on 105.7 FM

Radio Jambo is Radio Africa Group's Swahili station for a mass, national audience, known for football talk, comedy and conversation in plain everyday Kiswahili.

Radio Africa started the station in 2009. Music director James Njoroge has explained that the group spotted a gap for a large national Swahili brand that sounded different from KBC and Radio Citizen. From the start it went wide, with roughly 19 transmitters.

Sport came first. Early Radio Jambo leaned on Kenyan football and the big European leagues, then gradually opened up into a general station with strong appeal among working-class and lower-income listeners. By 2016 the brand had a spin-off with its own studios, Radio Jambo Turkana, and Radio Jambo was the only Radio Africa station running live news bulletins at the time.

Sauti Ya Pwani FM on 105.7 FM

Sauti ya Pwani FM is a commercial coastal station broadcasting mainly in Swahili from studios in Ganjoni, Mombasa, with a network of transmitters that reaches Malindi, Voi, Galole and Lamu.

The schedule is a coastal mix. Talk shows and community programmes sit alongside Islamic teachings, and the music runs from Swahili songs to hip hop and RnB. English appears in some programmes, but Swahili is the station's main language, which suits an audience that uses it as a first language along much of the coast.

Away from Mombasa, the station lists 103.3 FM in Malindi, 103.4 FM in Voi, 105.7 FM in Galole, in Tana River, and 106.7 FM in Lamu. That spread means listeners can follow it from the Taita hills to the Lamu archipelago. It is sometimes labelled an English station, but its own description says it is primarily Swahili.
