Emoo FM on 104.2 FM

Emoo FM is a Kalenjin-language station from Mediamax Network, aimed at Kalenjin listeners in the Rift Valley and in Nairobi. In the capital it sits on 104.2 FM.

Most of its audience is in the Rift, and each area has its own frequency. Eldoret and Nandi listeners use 91.8 FM, Kericho has 90.8 FM and Bomet 105.5 FM. Nakuru is on 90.2 FM, Kapenguria on 105.4 FM, and Kisumu on 89.2 FM. If the signal fades as you travel, those are the numbers to try.

Emoo FM launched in 2017. It was set up to give the Kalenjin community its own voice on the dial, and it competes directly with other Kalenjin broadcasters, Royal Media's Chamgei FM among them. Programmes reflect the region. There is news in Kalenjin, talk shows on family, farming and the local economy, and plenty of sport, with athletics given more airtime than on most stations. Music runs from older Kalenjin songs to current local releases.

Radio 47 on 104.2 FM

Radio 47 is a national urban Swahili station owned by Cape Media Limited, the company that also runs TV47.

The station went live on Monday 13 March 2023. Before launch it hired heavily from rivals, chiefly Radio Maisha and Milele FM. The opening line-up published that month named Eva Mwalili (Mama Taifa) on the early Nuru 47, Emmanuel Mwashumbe and Mkamburi Chigogo on Breakfast 47, Mwanaisha Chidzuga on mid-morning Mchikicho, Manucho the Young Turk on Baze 47 and Billy Miya with Mbaruk Mwalimu on the Maskani drive show. Dr Ofweneke took the evening Chemba Show.

Breakfast 47 changed in August 2023, when Alex Mwakideu left Milele FM and joined Mwashumbe on the 6am to 10am slot. Weekend programming at launch included Bahari la Elimu for students and teachers, Mikiki ya Spoti, Kali za Kale with Eric Wambugu and the political talk show Kikao cha Hoja.
