KU FM on 99.9 FM
KU Radio 99.9 FM is Kenyatta University's campus station, branded 'The Sound of Campus' and aimed at students and young listeners in Nairobi.
The station belongs to Kenyatta University and broadcasts from its main campus off Thika Road. The station describes itself as a youth-focused community station, built around the interests of students and young people rather than a general commercial audience.
Sport gets serious airtime. KU Radio carries live sports commentary, which sets it apart from campus stations that stick to music and talk.

Ruben FM on 99.9 FM
Ruben FM is a community radio station in Mukuru kwa Ruben, a large informal settlement in Nairobi, and it exists to give Mukuru residents a voice on the issues that shape their lives.
The station grew out of a much older institution. In 1986 Sr Mary Killeen, a Sister of Mercy, started the Ruben Centre as a school for the settlement's children. The African Education Fund, a Japanese organisation, later took it over and added its first clinic, and the Christian Brothers arrived in 2000. Today the centre is a charitable trust with a Christian ethos, under the Christian Brothers African Province.
Its scale explains why a radio station makes sense there. The centre runs 29 programmes across health care, schooling, livelihoods and advocacy, and more than 3,500 pupils are enrolled in its school. Ruben FM sits within the advocacy and networking work, putting local social and community concerns on air.

Shine FM on 99.9 FM
Shine FM is Daystar University's campus radio station, where communication students learn broadcasting by running a real station.
Daystar launched the station in 2003. In February 2022 it moved frequency, from 103.1 MHz to 99.9 MHz, so older references to 103.1 are out of date.
Daystar is a Christian university, and its main campus is at Athi River in Machakos County, with a second campus in Nairobi. It is not clear exactly where Shine FM's studio sits. A 2025 handover of the station's student leadership was held at the Nairobi campus, but that does not settle it.

Ene FM on 99.9 FM
Ene FM is a commercial station based in Wote, the headquarters of Makueni County, with programmes aimed at the Kamba community and younger listeners across lower Eastern Kenya.
The tagline is in Kikamba, which makes the target audience clear, even though the station's language is described as 'multilingual' rather than Kikamba outright. We have not seen the station set out its language mix, so we do not record one, but the branding is plainly Kamba.
In Kamba radio, Ene FM competes with Musyi FM from Royal Media Services and KBC's Mwatu FM. The station says it aims at younger listeners in particular, from its base in Wote. Wote is Makueni's administrative centre, so county news is close at hand.

Radio 47 is a national urban Swahili station owned by Cape Media Limited, the company that also runs TV47.
The station went live on Monday 13 March 2023. Before launch it hired heavily from rivals, chiefly Radio Maisha and Milele FM. Dr Ofweneke took the evening Chemba Show.
Breakfast 47 changed in August 2023, when Alex Mwakideu left Milele FM and joined Mwashumbe on the 6am to 10am slot. Weekend programming at launch included Bahari la Elimu for students and teachers, Mikiki ya Spoti, Kali za Kale with Eric Wambugu and the political talk show Kikao cha Hoja.
